Take Me As I Am

A little tune for you about getting to the point in your life when you are ready to let go of who others think you should be and accepting yourself for who you truly are.

Take Me As I Am© Joyelle Brandt 2014

The glossy pages of a magazine

The moving pictures on the movie screen

The shiny billboard up across the street

Serving up fantasy for all to eat

And we're all supposed to buy & buy & buy

And we're all supposed to try & try & try

Well take me as I am

or don't take me at all

I'm not looking for perfection

Will you catch me when I fall?

I chased these pretty lies

Throughout my mis-spent youth

I'm done looking for perfection

All I'm looking for is truth

The dusty paper framed upon the wall

The shiny trophy in the school hall

The burnished placard on the office door

Do you remember who you do this for?

And we're all supposed to buy & buy & buy

And we're all supposed to try & try & try

Well take me as I am

or don't take me at all

I'm not looking for perfection

Will you catch me when I fall?

I chased these pretty lies

Throughout my mis-spent youth

I'm done looking for perfection

All I'm looking for is truth

So what do I do now

with all the striving

to hide the shame?

These feelings I've been hiding

inside the striving

are coming back again...

Well take me as I am

or don't take me at all

I'm not looking for perfection

Will you catch me when I fall?

I chased these pretty lies

Throughout my mis-spent youth

I'm done looking for perfection

All I'm looking for is truth
