This painting is the first in a series of paintings inspired by the songs of Canada's female singer-songwriters. I've been inspired by other artists recognizing Canada's 150th birthday, like Evan Munday's series #365Canadians. But creating a piece of art every day is a little out of my league, so I'll be doing one painting a month for the rest of the year, each based on a song by one of my favourite Canadian women in song.
Thoughts on Fire by Ria Mae is a personal anthem for me, expressing not only how I feel often as a creative person (brain on fire constantly!) but also these lyrics have become a touchstone for me when my internal doubt starts to creep in:
I didn't listen to your negative reasons
I don't got time for that sort of thinking
I'm unaware if you're trying to bring me down
Too busy thinking better thoughts
And I love that so much
I believe I believe I believe
I can do it if I want
Thoughts on Fire is a 12x12 original painting, mixed media on board.
It will be part of an upcoming exhibit at Silk Gallery January 2018.
